The City of Chicago Heights is aptly named Crossroads of the Nation, with the transcontinetal Lincoln Highway running through its hub. During the 1920's workers of Italian, Irish, Polish, Mexican and African-American descent moved here to be closer to the developing steel industry. Chicago Heights continued to evolve, becoming the industrial leader amongst communities in the south suburbs.
Throughout the years, Chicago Heights has been defined by the rich cultural heritage of the immigrants who made their homes here, seeking jobs that the city's industry created. In celebrating the diversity and rich traditions of the city's resident population, the City of Chicago Heights established four Sister City relationships through Sister Cities International:
San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy
